Happily Ever After

I sit, rhubarb and custard tea as my company (OH YES YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT) thinking about the last week or so (AND HOW AMAZING CUSTARD CREAMS WOULD BE RIGHT NOW).  I feel like so much time has passed since i have last sat, and just thought.  That's why i rather like my little space - it like to sit and flip back through my camera and all the moments i have captured, and which could be so easily forgotten if it wasn't for here.  I would like to have more time to spend being thankful of all these little things - but sometimes life just swallows you up.  I shall just have to settle for being thankful inside and not sharing it with the world always.

The last little while has mostly been about skies, food and the most magical day ever.  And some other lovely moments which might have sneaked past me too.
Blustery post-cycle skies.  FLUSHED cheeks, extremely achey legs and feeling like i had rode far further than miles would have me believe.  I love how the clouds also look like they have been blown about - all ripples, tufts and fluff strewn out across the twilight sky.
Top of the hill angry skies.  Not so long after i took this pretty picture, the heavens opened.  I think you can tell.  the sun almost looks angry, and you could smell the rain coming.  The very best smell.  Well apart from toast, bacon or freshly baked sponge, pie, crumble (INSERT SUITABLE BAKED GOODS)
Power shower skies and sun bursts.  Such violent blobs of icy cold RAIN lasting only for moments.  I came back from the bathroom to find the bluest sky ever and proceeded to stick my head out of the living room window and exclaim how lovely the rain smelt.

LEMON-EY breakfasts to match lemon-ey skies.  Its not hard to see why it is so much easier to eat better when the sun shines.  You want to eat bright, colourful loveliness.  Recently i can't get enough of lemon-ey wake ups - the perfect start to the day, whether the sun stays or not.  Poppy seed bread, with melty salty butter and a generous helping of lemon curd.  Mmm!  Or an actual lemon curd yoghurt (GREAT FIND - WHO KNEW?!) with sliced pineapple.  A breakfast worth getting up for in my house.
The meanest GREENEST broad beans there ever was.  We munched them with a creamy potato and spinach gratin and vegetable and lentil kievs.  Loved that they smelt green, and i loved peeling back the pretty little pods to find the beans hiding inside, safe in their soft furry pod.  They are also rather nice raw in a salad too!
A really good combination.  Like the first time i tried damson chutney on cheese on toast; or strawberries with torn up basil; or… avocado and egg.  I digress! Warm ham and cheese quiche with ROCKET and BEETROOT.  It didn't last long.
Late night, lamp light munchies.  Always cereal.  Mostly always Dorset Cereals HONEY and PECAN granola with extra pumpkin seeds. Perfect before bed.
Small moments of joy.  Let's be honest i could quite easily eat my own body weight in Thornton's CHOCOLATES.  If i put just two in a small pretty bowl; chances are i wont get up and finish the packet.  Most of the time anyway.

The most magical day ever.  I was lucky enough to go to the prettiest wedding last week, with a bit of an Indian twist.  The bride in question spent most of her childhood in India and there were little references to it throughout the whole and entire day.  I have never been to a more thoughtful, heartfelt and beautiful wedding.  Every little detail was considerate, right from the venue (a pretty teeny tiny chapel right by a lake), through to the pretty little Tuk Tuk the bride arrived in and the sweet Indian table names and beautiful place cards.  Everything was so very personal and so very them, which ever way you turned.

Later in the day we were entertained by Indian Bhangra and Hindi dancers and encouraged to join in too.  It was all a bit crazy but it is a day i don't think i shall ever forget.  I fell through the door just before 2am, clutching my pretty iced Indian elephant biscuit wedding favour.
This is my 'i'm not impressed its raining and have to wear something resembling a coat' face.  I chose my new fringe-y printed Topshop unique poncho and a smock instead.  Oh and a hat.  Really growing attached to this hair saving little head coverer.
FLOWERS to brighten my day.  The last few days at work have taken their toll and so i plan to be rather lazy for the next two days off which i have.

Tonight we shall be making Moroccan chicken with cous cous and curling up and watching Skins.  I am looking forward sleeping in clean, fresh sheets and not waking up to an alarm.  Oh yes!
What's everyone else looking forward to over the next few days?

Golden Days

'It's HOT' is an understatement.  But as much as i try with what sun-sapped energy is left in my little bones; it's rather hard to be in a grump when the days are golden from morning through to night;  as much as you might try.  Or as much as you might feel you have reason too.

I'm sat here tip tapping away in my little office space after giving up on Britain and Irelands's Next Top Model in favour of a wide open attic window and a healthy breeze.  Oh and also because i am jolly well sick of sticking to our cream leather sofas…and to the Mr.  I am leaving my hair wet for as long as is humanly possible to avoid some sort of heat related coma where i might miss my alarm for work tomorrow.  All things considered, i can't really complain about this week which i cannot believe is almost over…

Oh glorious day off shaped Tuesday! How long ago that feels.  Because (AND FOR THE GOOD OF MY HEALTH) it's far too hot to be inside to do anything other than sleep; i took myself out for a solo breakfast at our favourite spot.  Before we shared a little corner of the world together; we would often spend lazy morning's in this little spot munching on the most delicious locally sourced and organic breakfast's.  (I LIVED A LITTLE BIT AWAY FROM THE MR AND WAS MINUS A WILLOW BACK THEN.  THAT AND HIS BREAKFAST OPTIONS WERE LIMITING.  I LIKE MY BREAKFASTS) For that reason this place always has a special little place in my heart and as i don't have the excuse to eat breakfast alfresco too often now; i decided the sunny weather was the perfect excuse for a treat.  It was warm, but with a cool tickly breeze first thing; and so there i sat, pot of earl grey for one and as much granary toast and marmalade as i could eat. I did miss him though…

Sneaking wild LAVENDER onto Willow's pretty little handle-bars, after a trip to the park.  Popping it into egg cups to dry ready for LAVENDER sugar to dust on top of rose and almond cake.

Posing in pink with new baby pink ends and a silly face.  FLOWERS under armpits are the hottest new accessory.  You heard it here first.
Getting lost in the sweetest places.  After being advised to get on the wrong train; i was stranded here for a good half hour.  There are worse places you could be stranded.  With no phone signal and having drank almost a litre of water en route (AND NO SIGN OF A TOILET) i was glad a train did eventually turn up…
TREATS.  The sweetest, daintiest little silver and fluorescent pink bracelet from Accessorize is my new favourite thing.  Matching hair to jewellery could catch on too…

Sky love.  Skies of turkish delight, molten lava, tequila sunrises and nectarine clouds.  They took both our breathes away.  There we both sat with our heads peeping out of the roof like little photo meerkats.  I will never tire of this MAGICAL little place we call home...
Only ice will do.  We are freezer-less (NO JOKES) and so anything frozen or ice cold is a novelty.  Don't ask me how we survived this long, but let me tell you; recently its been tough.  Tough when all i want are ice-cubes, ice lollies and ice cream for every meal. Except breakfast.  Breakfast is important.  I watched a programme the other day where they made brown bread and marmalade icecream.  Golly gosh…

Sending love and hugs (IT'S FAR TOO HOT FOR HUGS).

Hello to...

The beautiful weather we have all been basking in lately makes me think of summers when i was little.  I can't remember the last time i have enjoyed constant sunshine for so long (AND IT MUST BE ONLY WHAT, TEN DAYS?! IT WOULD SEEM IM EASILY PLEASED)

It would feel wrong going to bed with the sun still shining and the birds still tweeting.  The freezer would be full of ice-pops in various fluorescent colours (DREAD TO THINK WHAT THEY DID TO MY INSIDES).  Getting up was so much easier when the days felt like they lasted forever and it there was plenty of time to play out in the street after tea until bath time came.  Wearing special blue and white checked little cotton dresses for school with matching socks.  School uniform didn't feel so horrid in the summer months.

Even if this splendid show of sunshine-y brilliance does not last until the end of August (WHAT I CONSIDER THE LAST OFFICIAL SUMMER MONTH) then i am determined to make the most of every last second of those blue skies and sweet smelling summer evenings and all that goes with them, even if i am i few years older…

HELLO TO everything being and smelling so green.  Looking up and squinting at the brightness but loving the feeling on my cheeks. Being able to smell cut grass all the time (ACHOO!) and having to remind myself i cant keep looking up at the trees or down at the floor when cycling.  Eek.

HELLO TO early evening bike rides when its much cooler and the light so much prettier and different than a few hours before.  Being able to smell wild garlic and the heady scent of lavender flowers on the verges as i go.  Having time to do things after work.  Wanting to be outside.
HELLO TO bare feet always - no socks.  Warm wooden floors and bare feet.  Finding the sunspots and standing on them whilst sipping on Lady Grey first thing.

HELLO TO lovely summer-y food.  Strawberry milkshakes and fresh strawberries for mid-afternoon 'can't-wait-for-tea' type nibbling.  Breakfasts to eat on a slower amble to work (FUNNY LOOKS STANDARD).  Yes i am eating porridge in summer but i'm outside and it's got berries in it and all that sort of usual summery goodness. Finding new and exciting sandwich combinations:  a wrap filled with torn up chicken breast, green jalepeno salsa, chopped avocado and watercress, rocket and spinach. A squeeze of lime if the notion takes you.

HELLO TO making everything summery.  Summery thirst quenchers - simple icy water with torn up mint leaves a plenty.  Summer prints - wait i don't need summer as an excuse to wear print.  Flowers in my hair. Because how else is there to make your barnet more summery?!

HELLO TO summer bike rides.  My favourite of all.  All bare knees, damp hair, freckly skin and feeling the breeze on your cheeks without a care in the world.  Even if just for those few precious moments.  If everyone had a bike the world would be a much happier place.  Although i doubt everyone would appreciate a pastel green bike adorned with bunting…

Each to their own i say.  What has everyone been enjoying about the sunny loveliness?!
